To the Lake

Today is Sunday, as with most of my friends they are at the ……………………………….lake.  Yes, you guessed it right.  For some this is their only day off, so to the lake we go.  After all, I was told, you can be close to God at the lake as you are in the church building.  I am told that over the phone as my friend catches a large mouth bass.

While I was underwater, I was close to God.  Some days more than others.

Funny thing about water, some cannot swim, but they want to be near it.  Some can swim, fish, boat, or live in it all day long.  They love it.  Water interests people.  It has a secret draw to them.  Whether it is a water fall, stream, river, or the ocean, many stand and watch for hours.

What is also fascinating about water is that it gives life and removes dirt.  Peter writes of it in his letter to us.  Water baptism is not the removal of dirt, but a removal of spiritual dirt by committing to Christ.    When baptized, one receives a new life for what it symbolizes is the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus.  Thus, as He was brought to life after death, we too are brought to a new life at baptism.

Why is there a secret draw to water?   It gives life.
