The Three Fears

Jesus is teaching his disciples about the cost of being a follower.  In the midst of his discussion, he states in Matthew 10: 26 – 33 three fears.  The first fear is that of sharing the gospel.  The second fear is that of being killed for sharing the gospel.  The last fear is that of security and provision.  These fears are those that we have as humans.  Fears that drive our actions and direction.  Jesus knew that we would have to address our fears.

However, there is a fear that is valid.  This is the fear of the one who can destroy your soul.  Now many think that this is Satan.  Possible, but unlikely.  There is only one who can destroy the soul and that is God.   Followers of Jesus need to have a healthy fear of God.  Fear in this sense is not terror, but respect and awe.  Something that we have lost in the past generation.   We need not to fear the things of this world.  We need to fear God.
