Blessed are the poor in spirit for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Powerful words to begin a great sermon, the greatest sermon of all time. Jesus starts with reality. Most of us are broken, poor, helpless. We try the modern “Christian” teachings. You know, claim it, prophecy over it, anoint it, state it. You get the idea. Buy the books. Read the books. Do the books. Nothing happens. Keep coming up empty.
When one comes up empty so many times, there is only one thing to do, fall to your knees. When one falls to their knees and cries out for help, they are truly poor, broken.
However you cry out to someone. That someone has to be greater than you to get you out of your position. That someone is God. It is sad that this saying is true, “When all else fails, there is God.” Yet in the honesty of this statement, we see the power of the love of God come into our lives and heal us. No longer are we poor. God dwells in us. No longer are we broken, God has healed us. Heaven now dwells in us. Now we are rich.
Think about it.
